Odoo Inventory Management: A Practical Guide

How to set up Odoo Inventory: warehouses, locations, routes, reordering rules, barcodes, lots and serial numbers, and stock valuation.

Start with warehouses and locations

Create one warehouse per physical site and add locations for racks or zones. Odoo tracks every movement between locations, so you always know where stock is.

Routes and operations

  • One, two or three step receipts and deliveries
  • Drop-shipping straight from vendor to customer
  • Inter-warehouse transfers
  • Manufacturing routes that pull components automatically

Never run out: reordering rules

Set a minimum and maximum quantity per product. When stock falls below the minimum, Odoo creates a purchase or manufacturing order for you.

Lots, serials and barcodes

Track lots for expiry dates and serial numbers for warranty. Barcode scanning makes picking and counting faster and removes typing mistakes.

Stock valuation

Use FIFO or average cost with automated valuation so every movement posts to accounting and your balance sheet always matches the warehouse.
