How to Connect Odoo with Power BI (Step by Step)

Three ways to get Odoo data into Microsoft Power BI: exports, the OData feed and a push connector, with the pros and cons of each.

Why Odoo and Power BI work well together

Odoo holds your sales, stock, accounting and HR data. Power BI turns that data into dashboards that management reads every morning. The challenge is getting fresh Odoo data into Power BI without someone exporting spreadsheets every day.

Option 1: Excel or CSV exports

Export a list view from Odoo and load the file into Power BI. It is free and quick for a one-off report, but it is manual, goes out of date immediately and breaks when someone changes the columns.

Option 2: OData feed

An OData feed lets Power BI Desktop read Odoo tables directly and refresh them on a schedule. It suits analysts who build their own models, but large tables can be slow and you have to manage the security of the feed.

Option 3: Push datasets with a connector

A connector module pushes chosen Odoo models to Power BI datasets automatically, on a schedule or in real time when records change. Measures and relationships are created for you, and reports can be embedded back inside Odoo with the same user security.

Step by step with a connector

  • Register an app in Microsoft Entra ID and allow service principals in the Power BI admin portal
  • Enter the tenant, client ID and secret in Odoo and test the connection
  • Create a dataset from a template, for example Sales or Accounting
  • Publish it and set a sync schedule
  • Open the report in Power BI or embed it in an Odoo menu

Which option should you choose?

Use exports for one-off analysis, OData if your analysts work in Power BI Desktop, and a push connector when management needs live dashboards without manual work.
